#summerwithsilcare – Neon Colors – How to Wear Them?
Intense, energizing, bold, expressive – neon colors – the hit of the 1980s is having its comeback. Initially foreseen only for sportswear, now they are taking over the catwalks and are an inspiration for the greatest fashion designers, top hairdressers and make-up artists, as well as manicure salons. Although extremely fashionable, these colors are quite a challenge and can be troublesome for many people. How to wear them? What to combine them with? How bright should they be? What shades to choose? We will try to answer these and other questions in today's post.
In fashion
The 80's brought many innovations to the world of fashion. One of them was undoubtedly the development of fabric dyeing technique, which allowed to obtain new, extremely saturated, almost fluorescent shades. Initially, neon colors were used in the production of well-known leggings, gymnastics leotards and sports jackets (associated by many with the decade mentioned above). Later, thankfully, this trend also started to appear on other fabrics, and currently various clothing brands offer cotton, chiffon, tulle, or even lace and fake leather in intense shades of lime, yellow or orange. Still, if there’s such a wide selection of textiles and colors available, what rules should be followed in order to find something that’ll suit you in this maze of options?
First, you need to remember that neon colors are eye-catching and emphasize parts of the body where you wear them. Therefore, it is worth to plan out your outfits taking your body figure into account. If you are pear-shaped, neon colors worn on the upper half of the body will perfectly balance wider hips. And if you are one of the ladies with an inverted triangle body shape, bright shorts or skirts will work perfectly with wider shoulders. When it comes to classic hourglasses, we recommend intense accents around the waist – they’ll emphasize it even more
Second, be moderate. The total neon look is perfect for music festivals or photo shoots, but it can be a bit overwhelming on a daily basis. It is better to choose one main color (if you are just starting your adventure with bright tones, pick cobalt or fuchsia, and if neon colors are your thing, plus you want to emphasize your tan, bet on lime green or bright yellow). Accessories in intense colors will look amazing together with white, black or nude clothes – neutral colors will not only tone down the neon mania but also, by contrast, emphasize the expressiveness of energetic shades.
Third, don’t force yourself! A good outfit is the one that makes you feel confident, attractive, and comfortable. If you don’t have the courage to go to work wearing neon pants or suit top, then start with beachwear and sports clothing. It's an easy way of getting used to bold, intense shades.
In makeup
The neon trend in makeup is nothing new. For instance, eyeshadow palettes in expressive, highly saturated shades have been available on the market for several years now. And since liquid lipsticks became popular, they can be bought in many colors, starting from fuchsia, through intense orange, and ending on cobalt (an option for the adventurous ones).
Applying neon eyeshadows is not the easiest thing. You certainly need good brushes and patience, because perfect blending of the borders between the individual colors (which will help you achieve a seamless and clean transition) requires time and a bit of experience. However, if you do not feel confident in your makeup abilities, you should focus on emphasizing the lips. Neutral eye makeup, subtle blush, highlighter and bright, expressive lipstick – this is a perfect balance between trendiness and moderation, and at the same time, a great solution for the summer.
Influenced by the popularity of the so-called no makeup makeup, in other words, a very natural, delicate look, a new craze has arisen. It consists in omitting the eye and lip makeup, and instead, replacing it with only one accent, for example, eyeliner. This trend is flawless when it comes to neon colors. Moreover, there’s a really wide choice of highly pigmented, bright eyeliners and eye pencils in many shades on the market now – you have plenty of options – you can either draw a very thin subtle line or a dramatic cat eye, it all depends on you.
In manicure
Most of us cannot imagine summer manicure without neon colors. Intense shades perfectly emphasize the tan, and at the same time, add positive energy to our entire look. They can be used in many various designs – on all nails in a one color manicure, as a small accent, in an expressive, intense ombre, or in a colorful version of a classic babyboomer.
Recently, neon French manicure (tips painted on selected neon shade; there is also a version with five different colors if you like your nails super flashy) became really fashionable. But there is also a second Internet-popular trend worth mentioning. Color blocking manicure has the 80's vibe, and it combines contrasting colors and geometric patterns with abstraction. It’s a proposition for the braver ones who like original patterns and color combinations. This kind of nail art looks great with either one neon color accompanied by neutral shades or many bright-colored blocks put side by side.
