Packing a Suitcase for Vacation – 7 Tricks & Tips
The first decade of June is already behind us – days are getting longer and hotter, and this can only mean one thing... Long weekend is approaching! We know that many of you decided to take advantage of the gradually loosening restrictions and enjoy the good weather on a well-deserved vacation.
Regardless whether you’re going with your family to the sea, or with your friends to the nearby lake, or to the mountains by yourself, luggage is always an important matter. We won’t tell you how many and what things you should take along with you (that’s for you to decide), but we thought that it would be a good idea to collect and present 7 tricks how to easily pack your suitcase in a fast and compressed way!
Do you know the feeling, when you have to carry two additional shoe bags and your cosmetics, because they somehow magically can never fit with all the other stuff into your suitcase, because it never wants to close? If you answered “Yes”, then keep on reading!
- Don’t fold – roll!
By rolling all your clothing (including sweatshirts and jeans), you will not only save space in your suitcase but also prevent your clothes from getting overly wrinkled.
- Miniaturization
You can buy most of your cosmetics in sizes that are perfect for a travel. But what about those that aren’t travel-sized? We have a solution for that, too! Simply pour your cosmetics to smaller containers (you can use miniature travel containers specially designed for this purpose or something that you can find at home, for example, empty sample containers). And this is how you can make your cosmetic bag much, much smaller!
- Make use of every free space
Ineffective use of inner space of a suitcase is the most common sin of a traveler. The space at the bottom of a suitcase is the perfect spot for a pair of shoes or a rolled towel. You can stuff your rolled socks in your spare shoes or put them inside a small plastic bag and into your metal mug (if you’re a camper-type of a traveler). These methods will let you save extra space in your luggage for small souvenirs!
- Magical vacuum storage bag
Of course, this is not an option for everyone, but if you’re sure that the hotel where you are going to stay has a vacuum cleaner, then it’s worth to pack bigger things (that can be squashed down) into vacuum storage bags. After sucking out the air from the bags with a vacuum hose, they “magically” shrink, thanks to this, even a heavy jacket won’t take too much space in your suitcase.
- Plan your outfits
Try to plan your outfits ahead – think what you will wear on a given day, which blouses will look good together with a certain pair of pants or jeans, which pair of shoes will complete your set of clothes. This way you’ll be able to compose well-thought-out sets of clothes and you won’t have to pack unnecessary things, which you won’t even wear.
- Heavy stuff goes down
Heavy things, like books, hair curlers or shoes should go on the bottom of the suitcase. Thanks to this, your luggage will be well balanced and it’ll be easier for you to carry it around.
- Do you even need all this stuff?
Good question, right? But it is oh-so-true – we often pack too many things when we’re in a hurry, and they not only take a lot of space but are also totally unnecessary. Maybe your hotel provides hair dryers to its guests and you don’t have to carry one with you? Do you really need a full eye makeup while taking a walk on the beach? Are you going to wear a different coat every day? These questions may seem trivial, but they are worth asking. They’ll help you avoid carrying too many unnecessary things in your suitcase.
