#imstayingathome – Hair Care Treatments in Your Kitchen!
Is your favorite hair conditioner almost empty? Is you fridge filled with too much products and you do not want them to go to waste? Or do you simply want to try natural ways to care for your hair? If you answered “Yes” to at least one of these questions, then this post is just for you! Read how to nourish your hair with the use of 3 home-made hair masks, which you will be able to make in your own kitchen:
- Protein hair mask
Proteins are nutrients that constitute the main building material of our hair. They help in strengthening and regenerating its structure, as well as stimulate its growth and prevent brittleness. Flat, clumped together in strands and ‘lifeless’ hair will surely gain glow and volume thanks to proteins, however, do not overdo with their amount, otherwise the strands will become rough and frizzy.
It is not hard to find proteins in a kitchen. You can find them, for instance, in eggs and dairy products. After mixing together 1 egg yolk and 3 tablespoons of natural yoghurt, you will get an ideal hair mask that will nourish your weak hair in just 15 minutes. If the smell of egg yolk makes you feel uncomfortable, you can add 2 drops of essential oil (for example, lavender) to the mixture.
- Emollient hair mask
Emollients create a certain kind of protective film on the hair, which prevents water loss and protects the hair cuticles against damage. If your hair is dry, frizzy and tangled, then it’s a sign that you need to provide it with these substances.
The easiest-to-make hair mask will consist 1 tablespoon emollient and 1 tablespoon humectants (moisturizer). Why such ingredients? As we mentioned above, emollients prevent water loss, thus for optimal action, you should combine them with substances that provide moisture. Honey is a perfect humectant, and if you prefer a vegan equivalent, choose agave syrup. When choosing an emollient, any oil will do – everything depends on the individual needs of your hair. Coconut oil will work the best on low porosity hair, while olive oil will work wonders on medium porosity hair. And when it comes to high porosity hair, we recommend using linseed oil. If you want to find out what type of hair porosity you have, you can perform one of the very easy tests available online.
- Humectant hair mask
The humectants, mentioned by us earlier, are responsible for hair’s hydration level. Their deficiency results in dry, flat and dull hair. As you already know by now, it is recommended to combine their action with the coating and protective action of emollients, however, if you are afraid that the amount of the latter mentioned substance might be too great, you can safely prepare a humectant hair mask, or more precisely, a humectant hair mist. All you need is to mix half glass of water with a teaspoon sugar or teaspoon honey/agave syrup. We suggest to apply the mist to washed and still damp hair. Still, you should remember that this method is not effective on everyone. If you feel that after this treatment your hair gets frizzy, then you should complete the entire care ritual with emollients.
Be sure to maintain balance between the substances brought up in this post if you want your hair to stay healthy and beautiful. We warmly encourage you to mix different kinds of substance groups and discover combinations that will make your hair strong, shiny and full of volume.
