How to Make Your Own Antibacterial Gel
In the light of recent events, you've probably heard countless times how important hygiene is when it comes to prevention of any kind of infections. It’s not only about personal hygiene but also about taking care of cleanliness of desks, handles, laptops, tablets and other surfaces that we touch on a daily basis.
Nevertheless, hand hygiene continues to be the essential issue. After all, it’s thanks to our hands that we can experience the surrounding us world better, yet we shouldn’t forget that they also have the most frequent contact with a large number of disease-causing microorganisms. It doesn’t matter whether we can allow ourselves to stay at home or have to commute to work every day. What matters is that we should always remember to wash our hands frequently with warm water and soap. Be sure to wash all hand surfaces, both thumbs, fingertips and between your fingers. You should wash your hands for at least 30 seconds – about as long as singing Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark” song!
In situations where we don't have access to the bathroom, antiseptic gels and liquids will prove to be indispensable. By having them around, we’re able to disinfect our hands even without having access to running water. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t forget to moisturize our hands with a hand cream (disinfectants contain ethanol, which dries out the skin), and no matter what, we shouldn’t disinfect our face with the use of antiseptic products!
If you’re in need of a disinfecting product, then Silcare has something right for you! We offer you the indispensable Izosol, which thanks to the content of gentle bactericidal ingredients will disinfect the skin without irritating it. But if you prefer to make such a preparation all by yourself, try using our recipe for a DIY antibacterial gel.
Ingredients:
- 80 ml rectified or salicylic spirit (WARNING: do not substitute spirit with vodka!),
- 20 ml aloe vera gel (eventually water),
- 3 drops of chosen essential oil (e.g., lavender, eucalyptus or tea tree),
- chosen container of a minimum capacity of 100 ml.
Instructions:
Use boiling water to sterilize your chosen container, a spoon and a container in which you’ll mix the ingredients. Mix thoroughly all above mentioned ingredients with a sterilized spoon in a sterilized container. It’s very important to use spirit, not vodka, because the optimum concentration of ethanol in disinfecting preparations ranges between 62% and 71%, which means that vodka is simply too weak of a solution to use. The choice of an agent that’ll dilute the spirit depends entirely on us – water is obviously the easiest choice, but we should also consider using aloe vera gel due to the fact that it’ll protect our hands better from getting dry and irritated, plus it’s very easy to find in a store (even in an online one). An addition of essential oil will neutralize the spirit’s irritating odor and make the mixture to smell nice. After mixing the gel, pour it into a chosen and sterilized container (it can be either glass or plastic one) with any cap type. However, we recommend a bottle with an atomizer – it’ll provide comfortable use.
And voilà! It only took us a couple of minutes to make our own antibacterial gel.
We hope that you’ll find our recipe useful. Meanwhile, try to stay at home and take good care of yourselves!
