Choose the Best Nail Shape for Your Fingers

Probably most of you were in a situation where you had to choose a new color for your nails. Classic nude? Good choice, but which one? Cool pale pink or warm beige? How about red? Right, but which shade – cherry or crimson? Decisions, decisions, decisions! And what about the finishing touch, pattern, decoration and the shape?!

Deciding on the shape of our nails often seems a trivial matter, and surely way more boring than picking decorations. Nevertheless, it’s the shape that determines the final look of our manicure and how it’ll present itself on our hands. Below you’ll find a few tips how to decide between short oval nails and long stilettos.

Round and oval

These most popular nail shapes look great on hands with short fingers and wide palms, because they optically make the fingers seem slimmer and longer. Moreover, these two options look perfect, regardless of length, which makes them an ideal choice for those who have a thin and brittle plate and cannot keep long nails. The biggest advantage of round or oval nails is that they are easy to maintain – you can easily create such shapes with a file at home (isn’t it a great choice for the busy ones who don’t have time to visit a nail salon on a regular basis?).

Square

Square nails look exceptionally attractive on long palms with long fingers. This shape presents itself delightfully on short nails – such length makes them resistant to breakage and mechanical damage. Square nails are especially appreciated by people performing manual activities on a daily basis, for example, at work or during house chores.

Squoval

As the name implies, this shape differs from its predecessor with a square tip and rounded edges, which make it imitate the natural shape of the cuticle better. What’s more, squovals have a subtle look and flatter every hand. No sharp edges mean no fabric snags or skin scratches (the latter one is very important for people taking care of small children).

Almond

Almond-shaped nails are considered by many as the most feminine ones. They make fingers visually longer and allow countless nail arts, starting from a delicate babyboomer and ending on a creative neon colored design. Its only downside is the fact that it is hard to achieve such shape on a short nail plate, that’s why it’s mostly suitable for individuals with strong, long nails.

Stiletto

This shape is certainly not for everyone. We aren’t talking only about its build that (just like in the case of almond shape) requires a rather long and strong nail plate but also its appearance. Claw nails mainly suit brave and expressive people who aren’t afraid of unique stylizations. Its long pointy form slims the hands, but it can also be troublesome during many daily activities.

Above we’ve presented a few advice and criteria worth following while choosing a nail shape. We hope that our short guide will help you during your next visit to a nail tech (we can’t wait for nail salons to open, too!). Of course, you should not treat our tips as strict guidelines – remember to pick the shape that makes you feel comfortable and pretty!
