Body Scrub Do’s & Don’ts
DO: exfoliate before you shave
Scrub particles will bring hairs to the surface, making them easier to remove.
DON’T: exfoliate after you shave
You should avoid exfoliating for at least 24 hours after depilation, otherwise the skin might get irritated. Nevertheless, regular body scrub between subsequent treatments is very much advised, because it prevents ingrown hairs.
DO: apply self-tanner after scrub
Performing body scrub in this case will remove the dead skin cells, making it easier for you to evenly apply the bronzing agent, which in turn will prevent the smudges and discolorations from appearing, and make your fake tan to last longer.
DON’T: exfoliate before going to the beach
Sunlight may work more intensely on exfoliated skin, while some ingredients contained in the scrubs (e.g., enzymes) may exhibit phytotoxic effects.
DO: exfoliate rough areas of your body
Elbows, knees, feet as well as back – if you have pimples there – using a body scrub on these parts will remove dirt and dead skin cells.
DON’T: use body scrub on irritated, acne-prone skin or skin with erythema or rush
Exfoliation may worsen these symptoms and, in the case of inflammation, it may make it spread over the entire face.
DO: exfoliate right before a party
Body scrub is the fastest way to improve the skin’s appearance, which becomes brighter, full of glow and soft to the touch right after the treatment. Furthermore, makeup looks much better on a cleansed face.
DON’T: exfoliate too hard
A damaged outer protective layer of the skin is more prone to inflammation.
DO: use body scrub before pedicure
Exfoliating helps to remove calloused epidermis and stimulates blood circulation in feet.
DO: exfoliate before applying a facial mask, moisturizer or cosmetic product rich in active ingredients
Body scrub will not only effectively remove dirt and dead skin cells but also unclog pores, making it easier for active or nutritional substances to penetrate the skin.
